our story

a foundation for the future

We exist to better human lives and enable communities to push new boundaries through equal growth opportunities that are inclusive, sustainable, and transformational. We believe in giving back to society. We also believe that awareness through education empowers people, especially the youth. Educate, Empower and Encourage are the three pillars of our ethos. And so we design and implement impactful programs that focus on the youth and women as agents of change for healthier, equitable communities. Our programs are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals - SDG3 (Good Health and Well- being), SDG4 (Quality Education), and SDG5 (Gender Equality). We connect and collaborate with the government, civil society, networks, associations, and partners to accelerate the growth of our nation.

Metropolis Foundation was born after the Women's Empowerment Foundation and the Metropolis Healthcare CSR wing merged to achieve common goals. And the legacy of the work done by the We Foundation and Metropolis Healthcare's CSR wing form the strong foundation of our organization today.

Metropolis Healthcare Ltd CSR Legacy

Metropolis Healthcare has always had a unique approach to Corporate Social Responsibility, with the belief that when empowerment and awareness stems from education, it make us better equipped as individuals. Since 2010, Metropolis Healthcare has conducted several initiatives, including impactful camps and numerous workshops for different sections of society, and partnered with corporate groups, educational institutions, government bodies, NGOs, and wellness foundations to make a difference in human lives. In 2017, Metropolis Healthcare formally decided to design and implement its own set of CSR programs.

Empoweress

Launched in 2018, Empoweress was the brainchild of Ameera Shah, Managing Director of Metropolis Healthcare. The program was initiated to give an impetus to women entrepreneurs with the potential to succeed through hard work, passion, and dedication. The program helped overcome the challenges faced by small women-owned businesses, by organizing mentoring sessions and peer-to-peer networking opportunities. It gave women entrepreneurs access to more extensive networks and industry leaders, and created an environment for them to take big leaps in their businesses. Live leadership sessions were facilitated to help them tide over the challenges posed by the pandemic.

Conquer PCOS

Initiated in 2018 in collaboration with the WE Foundation, the program was designed to create extensive awareness among adolescents and young women of reproductive age. Statistics show that PCOS affects 1 in every 10 women during the reproductive stage. Awareness and early intervention go a long way in avoiding life-long complications. The program helped over 20,000 girls and young women make informed medical decisions and positive lifestyle changes.

Food Box Project

The Food Box Project was a joint initiative of Metropolis Healthcare and the WE Foundation and was undertaken during the pandemic. 20,000 nutrition boxes were delivered to doctors and healthcare workers on Covid duty in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Rajkot and Surat, with the support of Metropolis Sales Teams. Each nutrition box consisted of healthy snack options like dry fruits, cookies, protein bars, savouries and energy-boosting drinks.

METHealth

In 2020, the METHealth program was launched in collaboration with the PCOS Society of India to create widespread education among high-risk groups to prevent life-threatening disorders. METHealth reached out to over 25,000 women and facilitated online doctor consultations during the lockdown. It also built online tools to assist women with PCOS, and conducted over 25 live Instagram sessions in collaboration with the PCOS Society of India.

Healthcare Heroes

During the pandemic, healthcare workers and people working in the healthcare sector faced unprecedented challenges to save lives. To recognise this true spirit of patient care and sacrifice, Metropolis Healthcare, in collaboration with the WE Foundation, started the Healthcare Heroes event in 2021. The aim was to identify and recognise individuals and healthcare institutions that demonstrated a strong sense of purpose and commitment towards patient care, and prioritised it over their growth parameters. The two successful editions of Healthcare Heroes recognised doctors, nurses, ward boys, hospitals, municipal corporations, corporates and NGOs and was widely appreciated by the fraternity. The event became the ultimate showcase of untold stories of service, empathy, dedication, innovation, and determination of healthcare professionals during the pandemic.

Project Ummeed

Project Ummeed was undertaken on behalf of Citibank in collaboration with the Cipla Foundation and United Way, Mumbai. This project supported the Maharashtra State Health Authorities with their challenge of a limited Covid-19 testing capacity in the middle of rising Covid 19 cases. Metropolis Healthcare and its partners conducted over 1,25,000 RT PCR tests across Maharashtra and with its massive reach, was at the forefront of the nation’s fight against the pandemic. The project reduced the burden on the healthcare infrastructure, and reported all test results within 24 hours to respective hospitals, Covid Care Centres, and Municipal Corporations.

MedEngage

Envisioned by Metropolis Chairman Dr. Sushil Shah and launched in 2018, MedEngage is still one of the flagship initiatives of Metropolis Foundation. It was conceived to nurture medical and scientific talent and enable medical students to contribute to healthcare research in the country. This holistic program rewards deserving candidates financially, and provides practical knowledge through our world-class laboratories and panel of experts. Currently in its fifth year, the program includes Academic Research Support, Scholarships and Observerships and continues to benefit more students each year.

A partnership project with DSEU (Delhi Skills and Entrepreneurship University)

Metropolis Healthcare partnered with DSEU in 2021 for a 3-year project to set up 4 state-of-the-art labs at DSEU Dwarka Campus, and to introduce a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology (B.Sc. MLT). The program provides students with opportunities to acquire allied medical sciences skills, particularly diagnostics. It also guarantees student access to high-quality, industry-standard diagnostic equipment, and helps organisations save time and resources in training graduates with hands-on experience. The B.Sc. MLT program is being developed in close collaboration with academia and industry experts to make the curriculum industry relevant.
