Metropolis Foundation launched the second cycle of its CSR program, extending support to 1000 TB patients in Mumbai under the ‘Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.’ This initiative entails providing nutritional assistance to consenting TB patients in 'L' ward (Kurla), Mumbai, as part of the ‘Ni-Kshay Mitra 2.0’ initiative. The first cycle, initiated in December 2022 for 650 TB patients, was later expanded to encompass 702 patients across ‘L’ ward for durations of six and three months, respectively. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai has a high load of Tuberculosis (TB) patients, with few of the 24 wards with higher TB burden. ‘L’ ward (Kurla) was identified as one such ward with a higher number of cases. Metropolis Foundation is taking several steps towards addressing this challenge.

Metropolis Foundation, being a ‘Ni-Kshay Mitra,’ will work closely with DTO, ‘L’ ward, and support TB patients with monthly grocery kits through the NGO partner ‘Lok Sewa Sangam,’ for the next six months. The NGO will provide nutritional support, counseling, and train peer counselors in the local communities, who will help TB patients in adhering to treatment and nutrition.

Dr. Duru Shah, Chairperson of Metropolis Foundation said: “We are aware of the massive effort that our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji has undertaken to eradicate tuberculosis in our country by 2025. This disease creates havoc in men, women, and children, damaging their lungs, abdomen, and reproductive systems. At Metropolis Foundation, we believe in prevention. Along with medical treatment, good nutrition goes a long way to build immunity and fight infection. Ours is a small step towards this fight and we compliment the entire team consisting of the Government and BMC members, who have been working relentlessly to reach all targets in time.”

Dr. Kirti Chadha, Chief Scientific Officer and Group Head - CSR, Metropolis Healthcare commented: “We are happy to witness the success of the program, which has benefited 702 TB patients in Mumbai, with an impressive 82% of patients showing satisfactory rise in weight and BMI. We observed that proper adherence to treatment and nutrition, coupled with timely counseling has contributed to such positive outcomes, and also holds the key to reducing TB transmission within the communities.”
