Supporting the Government under the Prime Minister TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan
Metropolis Foundation runs the Tuberculosis (TB) program as Ni-Kshay Mitra in Mumbai’s ‘L’ ward. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai has a high load of TB patients and some of the 24 wards have a high TB burden. According to a study, the ‘L’ Kurla ward has a higher number of TB cases as compared to others, with an estimated 3 million cases, and 4,94,000 (4.94 lakh) TB deaths among HIV negative individuals in 2021. The Ni-Kshay Mitra program involves working closely with the District TB Officer (DTO), supporting thousands of TB patients with monthly grocery kits to support their nutrition. The program has also conducted TB awareness activities in the community to amplify the preventive aspects.
In collaboration with the BMC, Metropolis Foundation has started ‘TB Samvad,’ a dialogue of TB patients with stakeholders including the Government. This unique activity has immensely helped TB affected individuals put across the issues they face directly to the Government, which expedites solutions.
Spreading awareness on Diabetes and Anaemia
Metropolis Foundation collaborates with several Doctors from the NGO ‘Doctors For You,’ to create awareness on diabetes and anaemia in certain areas of Mumbai.
