We work closely with adolescent girls from underprivileged homes and communities. We impart knowledge on various health-related issues involving puberty, reproduction, personal hygiene and nutrition. We focus on sexual and reproductive health and educate them on sexually-transmitted infections, contraception, and abortion. In addition to this, some sessions focus on building their self-esteem through communication and decision-making skills. The program educates and empowers women to understand their bodies and unique requirements.
A key area that the program focuses on creating awareness about sexual abuse and gender-based violence, including women’s rights. Violence usually occurs in the form of infanticide, genital mutilation, child marriage, sexual abuse, domestic violence, sex-selected abortions, cyber violence, dowry death, honour killing, acid attack, trafficking, physical abuse in situations of conflict and the neglect of the girl child, adolescent and ageing women.
The ‘Empowerment Self-Defence’ program imparts skills and knowledge for situational self-defence so that the girls can live a fearless and empowered life against the darker side of humanity.
