Metropolis Foundation works closely with adolescent girls from underprivileged homes through their schools and communities. Through various thought through and carefully designed sessions, knowledge is imparted on health-related issues involving puberty, reproduction, personal hygiene, and nutrition. The focus is on sexual and reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections, contraception, abortion and hormonal issues like PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), which if addressed early, prevent long term diseases like diabetes and obesity. Some sessions focus on mental health and on self-esteem through building communication and decision-making skills. The program also involves creating awareness about gender equality, sexual abuse, and gender-based violence, and women’s rights. Overall, the program educates and empowers adolescent girls to understand their bodies and unique requirements, and encourages them to seek timely help and services from medical experts when necessary.
